Update:
This is not needed for Leopard!! The W300i will work natively out of the box with 10.5
So the latest version of iSync changed the way that plugins worked which meant that Miche was without the ability to sync her phone with her mac… this will be easy to fix says I…
After playing around for an hour trying to re-write the plugin myself and getting no-where fast I found this page which had a tutorial on creating iSync 2.3 plugins:
The site was incredibly helpful and with a bit of messing about I was able to get the correct settings for her phone and it all works again. Here is the fruits of my labours incase anyone else has a W300i that they would like to sync with their mac.
You need to extract this to:
/Library/PhonePlugins (then restart iSync)
The image is incorrect for the phone but is the nearest image I could find for the particular model (which turned out to be a SE Z520).
I had found websites selling their premade plugins but Im loathed to pay for something I think should be free, which is why Im sharing the above to hopefully save others the hassle!
Nice plugin, but is there a way that i can get my phone to work whith the USB data cable? My computer doesnt have bluetooth.
ho lord, you save my life.
seriously were do i send you twenty bucks!
Thank you so much! Works great! I appreciate it!
Thanks
After a systemcrash i?Ǭ¥d have some truble with my sync. It stops half way and gives a message that an error accured.
Any ideas, i?Ǭ¥v tryed to throw the prefs away but without luck. Maybe it wasn?Ǭ¥t the right prefs.
Kind regards
Mats
Haven’t checked this post in a while, glad to see this has been useful for some people. Thanks to everyone who has contributed images to the post, really appreciate that!
DUDE!
This plugin is the best! I too had to create the phoneplugins folder in library, but after that, no issues! My phone is now perfectly sync’d with my mac! w00t!!
Thank you so much!!!
Anduvo perfecto, muchas gracias por estu plugin. Es lo que le faltaba hacer a estos de Sony.
Thanks so much for this plugin – cursed myself when I found my new phone was not iSYNC compat. – then found your page! It works perfectly for me – no problems at all. Am very grateful.
You are a bloody legend…..worked a dream.
Cheers mate.
This W300 plugin:
- does not support USB syncing
- does not include an installer
- does not show the correct icon in iSync
- does not sync all fields correctly (multiple email addresses, work & home addresses)
- does not show visual feedback on the phones screen during syncing
I’ve been using the one from http://mobile.feisar.com/ which works much better, and has all the above features.
Yes, Johan, but it’s FREE! Yay!
Thanks Johan for the link, those plugins look like they must use new features available in iSync 2.4. I wrote this plugin for the 2.3 release so it might not have all the features of the new one. But as mentioned this one is free
If anyone wants to add the functionality of above then feel free to email me the results and ill post it here, you’ll obviously get full credit.
quiero descargar el plugin
@Johan (you ungrateful so-and-so!)
I get visual feedback on my phone during syncing with this plugin.
But more to the point, how you can criticize someone who has gone to the trouble to build this plugin and host it for free is beyond me! Unless, that it, you’re shilling for mobile.feisar.com, in which case you’re twice a jerk for posting comment spam.
Joe, once again, you rock. I use this plugin almost every day. Thank you!
Thanks!!!!!!
Hi Joe — thanks for taking the trouble to create and provide this plugin!
— Niki
Thanks for the plugin. It works fine with iSync 2.4
Thanx a lot mate!!!!!!
Cheers
Thanks Joe. As mentioned, works fine with 2.4.
Muchisimas gracias!!, funcion?ɬ? perfectamente
Great job! Works very well! Thank you!
Hartelijk dank !
THANKS!
Sorry pkease
Wdong cttegoryu…
will be careful
Joe I dedicate this sond to you! I’ve just bought a W300i because my Samsung PDA 730i will not sync with Mac and I bought MarcSpace’s “Missing Sync” to make it work with this Mac and still no go because there is some conflicting Beta software I loaded only to find after loding it I had to pay money to Beta test Pocket Mac for windows mobile.
Thanks I hope all the good coments are right about your software! If so this world need more people like you!!
Thanks
Doc
Well I see I misspelled “song” above but hey all doctors are bad spellers. If it weren’t for spell checkers I’d be incoherent!
See we Mac addicts have to stick together, don’t care if you’re Iranian; Armenian or Mexican. The same sun rises over all of our heads!
Keep it up and put PocketMac out of business.
Get em Joe!
Doc
Worked first time after creating a new folder.
Fabulous
Much obliged!
Joe! You are a gentleman and a scholar. Just got this phone for my wife and was hating myself for not checking iSyncs phone support for this one. You saved my marraige.
Hi Joe
Okay thanks a million in advance for all of your great work…
I truly am computer illiterate though, as i have followed all of the steps (I downloaded the sync file, created the plugin folder in the library, opened up bluetooth on my 300 )
but then when i opened up the sync file, it says that the device can’t connect to the 300
Do you have any idea how i can fix this?
My last phone broke on the same day as my ipod was stolen and I thought that the sony was a great investment, alas, that was 2 months ago, and I am going crazy without my music – and am going positively insane trying to figure it all out – is there something that I am doing wrong?
Any help at all would be very much appreciated.
Yours in technology
Thanks a lot Joe. There is a site where it tells you W300i driver:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070318000010489
Excellent work, thank you. Worked like a charm, now I can (i)Sync with my new W300i. However, do you have any info on using the phone with Address Book? I’ve added the model string to ABDeviceCommandSets.plist from inside Address Book.app but still, I can connect to the W300i via BT and either dial a number or send an SMS just once, further actions are just ignored.
Nice plug-in, works well, but I had to create the ‘ PhonePlugin’ folder myself since my system didn’t have it. Have a nice day!
I cannot get the plugin to work on iSync 2.4 (501.2). Do you have an updated version? I downloaded your file, unzipped it into Library/PhonePlugins (a folder which I created), then launched iSync and it still says that cannot connect to the phone.
Any help will be appreciated.
hey, ive been using your plugin for quite a while and for reasons that are beyond me, the plugin refuses to work now. I get the dreaded
[w300i] An unexpected error occured.
Device [w300i] synchronization failed”
i get this msg as it completes the sync.
What i don’t understand is how and why it just suddenly started happening after several months of good results…
Thank you for your site. I have found here much useful information.
Good site !
Hi… sorry for my poor english… i’m french
It does’nt work with my MacBook with OS X and iSync 2.4
Is someone can help me?
Thanks
tested with leopard and does not work, will try to see if i can find out the new format and create a new one for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Excellent… Thanks a lot.
By the way, you can put it in the user Library/PhonePlugins
What am I doing wrong? Do I put the whole folder “sew300iphoneplugin Folder” in the PhonePlugins folder? I am then using Bluetooth preference panel to set up the device, but still get the “not supported:” message in iSync. Any thoughts? It seems to work for so many people right off the bat. Is it because I’m on an intel machine?
Thanks,
Gregory
I think something might have changed in iSync 2.4 that broke the plugin, if anyone wants to make a fixed version I’m more than happy to host it and credit you for the update
Thanks
Joe

Hey, just got a free Sony Ericsson W300i through ATT/Work. At first I couldn’t get it to work, with iSync 2.4(501.2) on MacOS X 10.4.10 – wouldn’t recognize it. I did two things not sure which one caused it to work proper. The first I think is what fixed it because after I did this change to the file I got the correct icon instead of something I didn’t recognize at all.
I found a hint to make these work with 2.4 somewhere to edit the file Info.plist so that the ’string’ line points to the driver mentioned in the MetaClasses.plist file.
Replace:
CFBundleIdentifier
com.apple.phoneplugin.siemensSP65sync
with:
CFBundleIdentifier
family.com.sony.ericsson.syncml-phones-2005b.bt
This is the file /Library/PhonePlugins/SEW300w.phoneplugin/Contents/Info.plist
The other thing was that on a whim I said ‘yes’ to the question whether to allow the computer to use the mobile phone as a modem. I had been answering no until then, maybe it was something I didn’t understand.
That’s for the setup.
Kind regards,
Louis
I am impressed. Do you think you could do the same for an S500i? I am another sad old Mac case, who kinda assumed that iSync would work with my new phone like it did with the old W550i. WWRRONGG!! What can I give you/pay you for your time and brainwear? I don’t do programming, if yer can’t click it, its black magic!!
Joe, I find very usefull your blog. I tried to use your pluging on isync 2.4 a did not work. I find and app, is in french (but does not mathers) that allows you to sync w300i using bluetooth.
you can download the file from http://www.boobasoft.com/softs/isync4all/isync-w300i.dmg
It really works !
This is awesome, works like a charm. Thanks!
Like so many others, I *assumed* that any standard modern phone would be supported by iSync 2.4, and when my new 300i arrived today I was alarmed to discover I was wrong. Thank you so much, Joe, for providing this excellent solution, free of charge.
