Jon’s Stag Outfit

Jon the Stag

Big respect to Mark (best man) for coming up with such a great costume for Jon to be paraded around Yarm in!

I especially liked the ‘Toothbrush Game’… ten lads stand in a row and bursh their teeth, spitting their toothpastey goodness into a pint glass… at the end the stag is required to down the by then pint of saliva and spittle… nice!

So a (not so) brief update…

Not posted anything of any substance about what I’ve been doing for a while now so here goes…

Graduation
Since I last wrote I have now graduated… woohoo! Was a great day, very hot though! Family minus (Australian Hannah) all came down for the full show which involved me doing my best Harry Potter impression in full gown. The ceremony was pretty good and the guy spoke well. Housemates + housemates families all went for a meal which was a great way to end an all together great year and a great uni experience.

There are photos and when Im not so rushed ill upload them.

Southwold Beach Mission
Spent a week in Southwold on a Scripture Union Beach Mission with miche and family. Its something they have done every year since the beggining of time and to be honest it shows as the whole mission is incredibly well planned and executed pretty slickly. Although it was hard work and required a 6.30 start only to ‘enjoy’ a nice cosey communal shower every morning it was a great laugh and felt that I really learn alot. I was working with kids aged 5-7 which was an eye-opener as I dont consider myself old but it was hard work being so energetic and ‘fun’ all the time aafter ahving so little sleep (kudos to the parent peeps out there!).

So a good week and again some photos which ill upload once I get them off miche

Blakes Stag/Wedding
So Blakey (dont flakey) Jones is now married to the lovely Abi!

Stag do was different from the norm as we went raft building, such fun! Two teams built a raft with a catapolt and then waaged war on each other with sponges on the river. Water was warm and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Had the privilege of being an usher on the big day which was a great experience as its good to see weddings from the inside aafter being to so many as a guest of the last two years. Thoroughly enjoyed myself and have to tip my hat to the awesome speaches from both Blake and his best man, who managed to completely get away with some cronically inappropriate lines!

There may be photos of the stag and wedding, not sure yet.

Jon’s Stag
So friday night I undertook the long drive from Southampton to Hull and spent the night with family. Sat morning I drove up to middlesborough for Jon’s stag do which involved a trip to the F1 Karting in Gateshead. Very similar to other karting experiences appart from this course was on two teers so driving up and down ramps was required. Didn’t do too badly as there were quite a lot of ‘large’ lads who’s weight definately counted against them.

Spain
Which brings me upto date, later today Im back down to London and I fly out to Spain for a week’s holiday in the sun. Nice!

Send SMS from Address Book

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

Just found out that you can send text messages direct from the Address Book (OSX) if you have a bluetooth phone… this is definately a nice feature :D . Also heard rumours that it logs all incoming texts as ‘notes’ for the contacts, although yet to see this occur.

Just got to find a nice Quicksilver plugin for this and ill never have to use the crappy phone keyboard again… woohoo!

Jellybass in Computer Music Mag

Here is what Computer Music thought of the Jellybass album :D

Playing with Illustrator

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

I decided to buy Adobe CS2 in the week before graduating to benefit from the very generous student discount and have been reading tutorials since. It is quite alot to get your head round but its obviously incredibly powerful.

Anyway this is my first (well first that didnt look like it was accidental collection of shapes) illustration… da daah!

Bits are better than others but Im pleased with it… gotta start somewhere :D

File under geek…

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Dont worry there will be updates with what I’ve been getting up to in the next couple of weeks once I get hold of photos… so stay tuned… if your not computer inclined feel free to browse away now :D

AcidSearch (link)
GENIUS!!!! Its basically a plugin for Safari that lets you monkey around with the Search bar… so now I can finally have google.co.UK as my default search engine which you would not believe how much time is gonna save me! You can also add in search strings for ANY searchable site and use the search bar to search it… all very useful BUT the best feature for me is the ‘Find As You Type’ which when activated acts like the Find function in Firefox which I have always loved and missed since using Safari.

Smultron (link)
Very very feature packed code editor for OSX which also happens to be completely FREE. Only used it for a couple of tasks so far but seems to be very flexible and so far I like it… so nice to have a reliable ‘Auto-Complete’ function back (Why Why Why Dreamweaver??!?!?!?)

How to stop image spam/junk

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

I’ve been getting about 10 emails a day recently of the seemingly popular image spam, which is used to try get past regular junk mail filters. I found this junk mail filter on the web somewhere and it is currently working perfectly… it is also filtering out some of the annoying newsletters I’ve found myself “subscribed” to over the years.

This is a screenshot of the Apple Mail config but the rules can be applied in any email client that supports rules:

Two rules:

  1. The Content-Type of these emails seems to be multipart/related
  2. The sender of the email is never the same

Note to self!!!

Dont move an xbox360 while it is on unless you want to have to replace scratched DVD’s!!!! Doh!
