Christmas…

Monday, December 26th, 2005

Merry chrimbo everyone, hope you all had a great day! Christmas at the lamberts was very good! Possibly the best turkey dinner I’ve ever had, genius!!!

Went to midnight mass on christmas eve for the first time… interesting experience. The church which was a traditional anglican in local Beverley was huge and I was very suprised that it was completely filled, jam packed! The service was very dry and “religious”, dudes in dresses marching round the church in frowns carrying crosses on long sticks, service led from a book (scripted), announcements from the minister with retourts sung from the congregation in the most rediculous melody… literally could not have come up with a more random sequence of notes!

Im not really used to this kind of madness, but it made me a bit angry to be honest… just seemed so staged and almost pharisaical! It was really exciting to see a church completely filled but was soooo frustrating that the people wouldn’t see the life and passion behind the faith, just the stuffy tradition. If the whole service is scripted where is there time for the spirit to move and lead the worship/sermon/etc to where it should be? One argument is that it has to appeal to the folks that only come for that one service a year… but surely thats a load of crap? A nice watered down service so people can feel good about themselves once a year and feel comfortable and fuzzy and warm?!?! how about a nice vibrant life filled service that challanges the people that come, giving them something they have never had before… sitting in the service its no wonder that people dont see christianity as relavent in todays culture, its time to seperate the tradition (which dont get me wrong is all good, but not for everyone) from the true faith.

Jesus came to build a way for humanity to get back to God, so that we might have a personal relationship with him and to save us from the law, so lets not get bogged down with crazy ceromonies and lose sight of Jesus!

Rant over, merry christmas one and all :D

P.S. Think the reason this frustrated me so much is that I know there is life in the church in question, it has the most amazing youth group, which just keeps on growing and growing… just would have been amazing to see all the people in church on xmas eve walking out with a desire to know God!

Back in Hull

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

Am now back in Hull for christmas with the family. En route stopped off in London for the Rashbrook Christmas Party, which according to Rachey Rach is an essential part of christmas… can now see why, good party!! (didn’t get too grilled by family friends either which was nice!)

Few hours kip and some formula 1 skills from Miche and we were back in Hull! She has now left but we seemed to fit a fair bit in whilst she was about. Think highlight for me was being unable to get the car unlocked after taking the dog for a walk, solution… send miche in through the boot (avoiding small pile of sick… thanks Bella!), removing mud clad shoes in process… turn key in ignition and lower window to allow an almost Dukes of Hazard entrance to the car from myself! Amusing but not something I would want to repeat.

Infact car humour seems to have been the thing for the weekend, seems that Miche’s car enjoyed its stay in hull so much that on leaving this morning it felt the need to give my car an affectinate little kiss goodbye, leaving a little bit of its lipstick (paint!) on my back bumper… how cute! ha ha ha

Little sister Beth got baptised last night which was awesome! Was priveledged enough to be asked to get in the pool and help dunk her which was a really amazing experience!

Hectic weekend!

Xmas Party – 57 Style…

Saturday, December 10th, 2005

Had a house christmas party last night, very good turnout (although there were a few noticable no shows!?!?!) and an all together enjoyable evening! 6 DJ’s on rotation and some live visuals gave it a bit of an edge I recon!

Here are a few photos from the night:

Not feeling too inspired to work today, got that run down to christmas feeling!! Soooo… convinced myself that the following was a neccessary use of my time this morning…

The images I did a while back for Gojira, they have decided to use them for their new ‘LIVE’ album which is a collection of recordings from their various gigs. Head over to www.gojira.co.uk for more info on the album!
